Users can send, receive, store and even exchange cryptocurrency via the SafePal app. Their team state that they offer support for over 15,000+ tokens, which is one of the largest amount of supported currencies we've seen so far. Alongside this, they also include unlimited currency storage, with users able to add/remove tokens at will. Although compatible with external wallets such as Coinbase and Electrum, we were unable to locate an official list of supported wallets. Although there is no Bluetooth support and the design can feel a little fragile at times, we feel that the S1 is well worth its price tag.
According to Kraken Security Labs, in some cases the SafePal S1 offers better security standards than the Trezor One. However, they do state that they found some security flaws within this wallet, although this is fresh from successfully hacking both the Ledger and Trezor models. Instead of using a standard recovery phrase, users choose from a 12, 18 or 24-word mnemonic phrase for their backup recovery. This remains one of the few hardware wallets to incorporate a "self destruct" and other data-erasing mechanisms. Should sensors detect a software or physical attack, the wallet will initiate a defence mechanism; erasing the private key and wallet data. For this reason, we highly recommend writing down a physical copy of this information.
